Green Mountain Scenic Highway Seeks National Designation

America's Byways Logo

The Green Mountain Scenic Byway is soon to submit its nomination application for a National Scenic Byway designation. Currently part of the statewide collection of scenic and historic highways, overseen by the Florida Department of Transportation and recognized for their distinctive and memorable experiences. The Federal Highway Administration recently opened a nomination cycle, the first in nearly 10 years seeking to add to its collection of 126 highways across the country that have been recognized for their national significance.

For the last several months the byway team has worked to complete their nomination application for anticipated submittal to the FHWA early this summer. Selections will be announced in the fall of 2020.

While overseen by the FDOT, the Florida Scenic Highways Program is voluntary and grassroots focusing primarily on community planning, education and local economic development. A federal designation will bring national recognition to this byway’s 45 miles of beauty, history and recreational potential.
